The SAIPC Summer Showcase of Young Pianists, inaugurated in 2006, is an opportunity for San Antonio’s outstanding young pianists to perform in recital. Performers include winners of several prestigious pre-collegiate competitions including The Janice K. Hodges Competition, The Junior Tuesday Musical Club Competition and the Texas Music Teachers’ Association Local Performance Contest. The showcase, which will be an annual event, was underwritten by the Fisher family in memory of their mother, Sheva Fisher, who served for a number of years as executive vice-president of the SAIPC Board.
April, 2007 marked the debut of Meet the Artist, an exciting new SAIPC community event which featured 2006 Bronze Medalist Michael Mizrahi and 2003 Gold Medalist Roger Wright.
More than 200 students from all over San Antonio had the opportunity to learn in an informal setting about the various aspects of a performing career. Students’ questions included how these young artists began their careers, how they prepare for performances, and how they are achieving their musical goals.
Programs were held for music students at Edgewood Academy, at UTSA, at the Musical Arts Centers of San Antonio, and at the Steinway Piano Gallery. As an additional component of the Meet the Artist series, Roger Wright performed the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 2 with the UTSA Chamber Orchestra at Edgewood Academy.
Meet the Artist was underwritten by the Genevieve and Ward Orsinger Foundation and the City of San Antonio/Office of Cultural Affairs.
