» Competition Rules «


  1. All transportation to and from San Antonio, Texas will be the responsibility of the Competitor. Lodging for the Competitor will be arranged by SAIPC with a host family, who will also provide the Competitor with food, local transportation, and use of a grand piano.
  2. Competitors are expected to arrive by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012 and to remain through Sunday, October 21, 2012.
  3. SAIPC will not provide for expenses for lodging, food or transportation incurred prior to Sunday afternoon, October 14, 2012 or after Monday morning, October 22, 2012.
  4. No lodging will be provided for a Competitor's family or other traveling companions.
  5. Competitors must notify SAIPC of programs to be performed during each Competition Round no later than August 15, 2012. Email communication is preferred. The SAIPC Artistic Committee will have final approval of programs for each round. In the event that any repertoire is unacceptable, the Competitor will be notified immediately.
  6. No repertoire changes will be allowed after September 15, 2012.
  7. Compositions recorded on the Audition Round CD may be performed during any of the Competition Rounds. No piece performed during a Competition Round may be repeated during any other Competition Round.
  8. All works must be performed from memory, both during the Audition Round and during the Competition Rounds.
  9. For the Competition Rounds, each Competitor must make available to the Judging Panel, at their request, three copies of scores of unusual or non-standard works not available in SAIPC's library.
  10. Time is allotted for piano selection and rehearsal prior to the Preliminary and Final Rounds. No change of piano will be permitted prior to the Semifinal Round.
  11. The order of performance during Competition rounds will be determined by random drawing. No changes will be made in the order of performance except at the direction of the SAIPC Artistic Committee Chair.
  12. Due to the possibility of unpredictable events during the Competition, Competitors must be willing to perform at any time other than their assigned time, as determined by the SAIPC Artistic Committee Chair.
  13. One time slot will be allotted for each Competitor before the Preliminary Round, and another before the Final Round, for piano selection and rehearsal in the Competition concert hall. Individual time slots will be chosen by random drawing. The piano initially selected by a Competitor will be used for both the Preliminary and Semifinal Rounds, but a Competitor may change his or her choice of piano before the Final Round.
  14. All Competition Rounds (Preliminary, Semifinal and Final) are open to the public.
  15. Voting in all three rounds will be by confidential ballot based on a predetermined scoring system. All decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to appeal.
  16. Competitors are not permitted to make contact or speak with any member of the Jury or the Commissioned Work composer during the competition. Failure to abide by this rule may result in disqualification.
  17. No Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal winner may perform a solo recital within a 50 mile radius of San Antonio prior to June 30, 2014 without permission of SAIPC unless he or she first performs a solo recital for the benefit of SAIPC within the same area.
