ELIGIBILITY

The 11th San Antonio International Piano Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities. To be eligible to compete, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be between the ages of 20 - 32 (inclusive) as of October 14, 2012 (i.e., born no earlier than October 15, 1979 and no later than October 14, 1992);

  2. Must not be a former SAIPC Gold medalist;

  3. Must have been formally engaged in piano studies for a significant amount of time since the applicant's 15th birthday;

  4. Must have performed at least five solo recitals between January 1, 2005 and the application deadline (March 1, 2012);

  5. Must have performed as the pianist in a chamber music recital (trio or larger) or as the soloist in a piano concerto performance between January 1, 2005 and the application deadline (March 1, 2012).
The above requirements are only for the purpose of determining eligibility. The requested information will not be used as part of the process of selecting which applicants are invited to participate in the Competition. For that reason, the Audition Judges will not be allowed to see any Application Forms or programs, but will make their determinations based entirely on the submitted CDs. For the same reason, an applicant will not gain an advantage by sending information about more than the number of requested programs.


APPLICATION PACKET

To apply for participation in the 2012 Competition, each applicant must do all of the following:
  1. Complete and save an Application Form online.

  2. Print a copy of the completed online application, and submit it to SAIPC with supporting materials and documentation. The Application Packet must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2012, and mailed to
SAIPC, P.O. Box 781146, San Antonio, Texas 78278 USA

In order for the application to be considered, it must include all of the following:
    1. Printed copy of completed online Application Form.
    2. Nonrefundable application fee of $100.00 (U.S. currency). Fee must be in the form of a cashiers check or money order.
    3. Copy of passport. (If no current passport is available, copy of birth certificate may be submitted. However, if the applicant is selected to participate in the Competition, a copy of the applicant's passport will be required with the later submission of follow-up information.)
    4. Three copies of a standard compact disc (CD) of excellent recorded quality. See description of Audition Program for specific CD requirements. Performer's name or initials must not appear on the CD label.
    5. One Digital Video Disk (DVD) of the same program as that on the CD.
    6. Photocopies of programs from five solo recitals you performed since January 1, 2005. (See Question 4 on Application Form.)
    7. Program of one performance of chamber music (trio or larger) or piano concerto in which you performed since January 1, 2005.
Note: All submitted materials will become the property of SAIPC.


FOLLOW-UP INFORMATION


When a Competitor or Alternate is notified of acceptance into the Competition, the Competitor will also receive a follow-up Questionnaire regarding logistical information such as host family placement and dietary restrictions. In order to prevent disqualification from the Competition, the Questionnaire must be returned to SAIPC, postmarked no later than August 15, 2012, along with the following items:
  1. Copy of passport, if not previously provided (drivers license not accepted);
  2. Biography of no more than 250 words;
  3. A recent high resolution color photo; and
  4. Repertoire to be performed during each round of the Competition.
